Many still don’t understand what regulations apply in travelling during lockdown level 3. Flying during Lockdown is going to be a little different, as we’ve had to implement a number of measures onboard and at the airport to ensure optimum safety for our passengers and staff. So, to get you prepared for your journey, we’ve put together a Safety Travel Guide so you know what to bring and what to expect when flying.
Domestic passenger air travel is not permitted for recreational, leisure or tourism purposes.
All international passenger flights are prohibited except for those flights authorised by the Minister of Transport for the repatriation of South African Nationals from foreign countries and evacuation of foreign nationals from South Africa.
Normal drop-and-go areas will be closed, all customers are to enter the terminal through parking facilities. Only passengers may enter the terminal.
To allow for enough time for safety procedures and protocols at the airport, please arrive two hours before your flights.
Port Health will screen everyone at the entrance to the terminal. Travellers will be required to show their travel documentation and undertake a temperature test.
Social distance must be observed inside the terminal. Floor stickers will indicate distancing and perspex screens at check-in counters.
Customers are required to Self-Scan to clear security.
Boarding will be managed in small groups. Customers will self-scan boarding passes and display, not hand over, ID/Passport documents.
Aircraft will be wiped and fogged between flights.
There will be no catering or Inflight magazines onboard; and limited movement when on the aircraft.
All customers will be hand sanitised when boarding.
To maintain social distancing when leaving the aircraft, passengers will disembark as follows: Aisle seats first, middle and then window seats.
Here is a list showing who is allowed to travel during level 3 lockdown.
Any person carrying out work responsibilities or performing any service permitted under Level 3, provided that such person is in possession of a permit issued by the employer
Persons moving to a new place of residence
Persons moving to care for an immediate family member
Members of Parliament performing oversight responsibilities
Learners and students who are travelling to schools or institutions when they are permitted
Persons attending a funeral
Transportation of mortal remains
Persons obtaining medical treatment
Persons who are returning to their place of residence from a quarantine or isolation facility
Any movement permitted under regulation 41
Remember to only travel when it is absolutely necessary.
