BUDGET FRIENDLY THINGS TO DO ON HOLIDAY!

With the year that we’ve had, we can all do with some time away, but many of us just can’t afford to spend a fortune on a short holiday with all the Covid uncertainty going on around us.

Get a day pass into The Kruger National Park

Home to the Big 5, the world-renowned Kruger National Park is a once-in-a-lifetime place to visit. There is nothing that compares to seeing a lion hunting an impala in the wild or a playful baby elephant following its herd - and you can experience all this for less than 300 bucks!

With views that stretch to the ends of the earth, the top of Cape Town’s iconic landmark is simply breath-taking. Walk up (for free!) and catch the cable car down, or just cable car it both ways, and watch the sunset over one of the world’s most beautiful cities.

Berry Picking at Bon-Af Berry Farm

Berry picking is great fun – and of course, the whole family reaps the rewards of enjoying the delicious fruits of your labours! The outing includes a guided tour of the orchard, as well as the chance to pick a variety of berries. There’s also a tea garden on the premises, where you can have some refreshments and a petting zoo with cute farm animals.

This charming family-friendly holiday resort is only 23km from Bloemfontein and it’s known to serve up a variety of fun activities for the whole clan. Activities include fishing in the Modder River and a variety of fun summer and water sports. Families can enjoy a guided tour around the working 400-acre ranch in the heart of the Waterberg, just 30 minutes from Vaalwater and Nylstroom. Enjoy a cheese tasting, breakfast or lunch at the farm’s Goatino Pub & Grill. You can also take some cheese home with you if you like.

At their Umhlanga headquarters, visitors can enjoy displays of lifelike replicas of sharks, fish and rays as well as an educational audiovisual presentation and a dissection of a shark. It’s a great family outing, and educational too.

No matter what type of board sport you enjoy, you’ll find it at the Wave House in Umhlanga. This venue is especially popular with youngsters and offers the opportunity to surf and skate to your heart’s content. Live bands and other spectacular events thrill the crowds here too at the Wave House Events Arena. You’ll also find the highest indoor climbing rock in SA, and an assortment of restaurants and refreshment kiosks to keep the hunger and thirst at bay

Gold Reef City, Johannesburg South

Johannesburg’s most famous entertainment complex offers a combination of fun, fantasy and history. It’s as well known for its casino and theatre as it is for its fabulous fun activities for kids. But that’s not all. You can also enjoy traditional African dance, music and history here. Trace your family’s roots to the beginning of time at the Cradle of Humankind

Maropeng is the visitor centre for the famous Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site, an hour’s drive from Johannesburg.
